Joshua Rous is an award winning Writer/Director who has worked and studied in both theatre and film in South Africa, Oxford, Boston and Los Angeles. Having attained his Master
of Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of Southern California he worked for a year as an editor and director in
Los Angeles.
Joshua's music video Tragic Laughter, commissioned by Yo Yo Ma, was released by Sony Classical in May of 2005. Other achievements include winning SAFTA Golden Horns as Best Director for his short film Sibahle, Best Writing Team, Best New Sitcom and Best Director for City Ses'La. Joshua has also won audience awards at The Los Angeles Instant Film Festival, as well as at the Apollo, Cape Town and Durban International Film Festivals. He gained experience working with Adam Schroeder Entertainment at Warner Brothers and has been personally mentored by Oscar winners Robert C. Jones and Mark Harris.
Josh returned to SA in 2004 and has become a Head Creative and In-House Director at Rous House Productions. Since returning home he has spear headed the multiple-award wining sitcoms City Ses'La, Askies, and Ga Re Dumele whilst finding time to write, direct and produce his first feature film released by Ster-Kinekor - Discreet. He is currently directing the popular soap opera Scandal.
Returning to South Africa to revolutionize the film industry is the culmination of many years of preparation, perseverance and passion for this young director. |
Luke Rous received an honours degree in Live Performance
and Script writing from the South African film and drama school AFDA in 2003 where he excelled in physical performance
and developed his love for television and film. Shortly after graduation Luke was instrumental in brokering a co-production deal with Endemol South Africa to launch the first season of City Ses'La, SABC 1's successful sitcom.
Since then Luke has co-head written the past 3 seasons of City Ses'La as well as the Afrikaans sitcom Askies (SABC 2) and the hour long drama Borderline (SABC 3). He has written for the drama series Thokolosi (Botswana TV), the sketch comedy inserts for Beat-Root (M-Net), the sitcom Unicity (E-TV) as well as written and story lined for the popular soapy Isidingo (SABC 3). After completing the multi-camera directing training program at Isidingo, Luke honed his directing skills on the set of City Ses'La but had a chance to perfect them while directing 13 episodes of the sitcom Family Bonds (SABC 1).
But its his passion for production that saw him act as associate producer for the feature film Discreet (Ster-Kinekor distribution), as executive producer for the hour long TV special for FHM (M-Net), as well as on the first episode of the reality series Culture Shock (M-Net), and the 13 part sitcom Ga Re Dumele (SABC 2).
Luke's desire is to dedicate his production skills towards the art of creating compelling long format drama and comedy in South Africa. |
